Supporting charity events is heavily encouraged throughout the placement scheme and is a great way to get the whole team involved. Check out how ProspectSoft fundraised for this year's Macmillan Coffee Morning and take a look at all the sweet treats we baked!
On 30th September 2022 the ProspectSoft team hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning, along with the rest of the nation, in support of Macmillan Cancer Charity. The event brought the whole office building together to try all the delicious treats we created!
About the Charity
The first Macmillan Coffee Morning was held in 1990 with a small group of people and, due to its success, the event has since become a national occasion in all kinds of environments from homes to schools, and even online during the Covid pandemic. Over the years, participants have made the Macmillan Coffee Morning their own. Whether that’s taking a Victoria sponge 100 feet underground in Poldark Mine, Cornwall, or flying some apple crumble all the way to Antarctica, partakers have gone above and beyond to raise money for the charity. To date, the coffee mornings have raised £290 million for Macmillan and it’s expected that this year’s coffee mornings will raise approximately £2 million to help fund 33 Macmillan nurses, allowing them to work with patients as well as their families. The charity supports patients through a disease that most people will have had some experience of, whether it was a family member, friend, or work colleague. It’s this personal and emotional connection that motivates so many people to partake in a positive and social event to help and support those with the illness. Thank you to all that supported our Macmillan Coffee Morning this year!
How We Got Involved
The charity provided our Marketing team with the coffee morning kit comprising all the promotional material needed to make our bake sale stand out and inform as many people as possible about the event. Using the kit provided, we set up a stall in the office cafeteria at the Wood Centre for Innovation while everyone piled the table up with various treats and baked goods for the sale. We were really pleased with all the contributions from staff members across the office building and were delighted that the café staff were generous enough to donate some of their pastries. It was a thoughtful touch and showed how willing everyone was to get involved. As we're only one of the businesses in the building, we were able to use the common space to promote the event and the charity to multiple different companies, allowing us to further raise awareness of the charity and generate an overall total of £160 in donations. It was extra special for us to receive donations online from staff that were unable to attend the event but who wanted to support the charity.
As part of the cake sale, we ran a mini bake-off competition where the placement students voted on the best homemade cake. This year it was Matilda, one of our Onboarding placements, who took the title of Star Baker with her delicious chocolate chip banana bread! However, all contributions went down a treat, leaving the table bare by the end of the working day. Being my first charity event at ProspectSoft, I think the Macmillan Coffee Morning was a great one to start with as it was an informal occasion that allowed us to meet other members of staff within the building and was a nice way to socialise away from our computers. Even though not everyone was able to make it to the event, the support that was shown by all of the ProspectSoft team highlighted the community feel that has been created, especially amongst the group of placements. It’s been great to get involved in this event and, as part of ProspectSoft’s social committee, I hope to get involved in the arrangement of many more over the year!
