Progression

By Alex Smith on Wed 23 March 2011 in Placement Blog

As part of my role in Sales and Marketing I regularly get involved in updating and maintaining our websites. I use the plural because we currently have some product specific sites as well as some designed to reach out to particular customer segments and bases.

The current “corporate” site, however, has been in need of some major housekeeping for a while now, so the Marketing department has turned its attentions to our flagship site:www.prospectsoft.com

As part of our efforts, I was setup with the task of designing and creating layouts and content for our new “About us” and “Careers” pages which I was pretty keen to get stuck in to. It’s not finished yet, but I’ve really enjoyed planning and starting this micro-project, not only because it serves my interests in Marketing and Web/Graphic Design but because it’s made me look at how ProspectSoft approaches everything it does, from culture and employment to product creation.

From the start of our placements we felt that ProspectSoft was going to be a great place to work. The environment and culture here truly allow you to express and develop yourself; from the word go the office itself was a place to come together with a team, express your ideas, widen your skills and generally gain some decent job satisfaction. Sure we all work hard, but there’s so much opportunity to bond with other employees and build great friendships. Everyone here is fairly outgoing, and there’s the odd prank or game of throw & catch to get involved in.

What adds to this culture of unity and self-development is the placement academy each placement gets involved in. It’s fairly formal and involves paperwork, but is actually a neat way to measure your achievements, and inadvertently complete the work most people have to do to take back to university. During the year, we complete evidences of our work and achievements, and are awarded certificates for different categories. It’s a great way to track your progress, focus on areas of improvement and record your year for your placement modules in final year.

There’s loads more I could go on about; our new products, why we do what we do and what it means to be an employee of this company, but you’ll have to check out my new web pages for that…
