Since joining ProspectSoft in September I’ve had a whole host of different tasks and challenges to address.
The thing I really appreciate about the placement is the ability and opportunity to utilise your own skill sets in whatever you might need do. Officially, I’m a Sales and Marketing placement, which means I’m spread over several areas. This is great because it provides such significant task rotation. Furthermore, the fact that I have several areas to work on, means I have the opportunity to learn new things, take individual responsibility for jobs and express a wide skill set. One of the best pieces of advice I was given when starting here, was to think about my skills and utilise them. Thanks to the way ProspectSoft designs its placement positions, there is so much scope for me to do this.
Just recently I’ve been put in charge of a number of design tasks. December brings a few key activities for ProspectSoft. Obviously there’s Christmas. To add to this was our recent Customer Day and our annual applications to both Rate my Placement and the National Council for Work Experience (last year we won first place in each one!).
Over the past month or two, I’ve been liaising with other colleagues, attending meetings, and generally brain-storming to come up with some marketing material for all these events and activities. During this time, I took that advice on board, and focussed on my love for graphic design and video editing. I’ve produced brochures, flyers, digital banners and even an advent calendar (with real chocolate!). I never thought taking on a Sales and Marketing role would allow me to utilise these skills, but it just goes to show; a great placement gives you the opportunity to call on your skills and improve them throughout the year. I’ve had some brilliant feedback from managers and directors on my work and I’m so happy to be in a position where I can achieve praise and acknowledgement for something I love. Sure it’s only a small part of the overall picture of my job and the organisation as a whole, but I can appreciate how this all goes towards helping the business and its Marketing efforts. If you’re thinking of applying for a placement here, I really can’t stress how much flexibility and opportunity there is to utilise ALL your skills. No day is ever the same and that’s why I’m so keen to actually get out of bed and come into the office each day.
